CASTLE IN THE GREEN AUDE
Location : Situated in the South of France in the heart of the green Aude, 15 minutes from the medieval bastide town of Mirepoix, 45 minutes from the city of Carcassonne and the modern metropolis of Toulouse. We are in the French countryside, or
calm and a certain serenity emanates from this place. Motorway, TGV and airport access are only 45 minutes away from this unique place.
History : La Commanderie was built in the 13th century by the Cathar lord Guillaume de Plaigne. His daughter, Anne de Plaigne, who had married the Count of Pibrac in 1642, sold the castle to François Paul de Béon-Masse-Cazeaux, Grand Pieur of the Order of Malta in Toulouse, who in 1685 had this seigneury erected as a Commandery of the Order of Saint John. It was the largest and most recent Commandery of the Languedoc.
The Commanderie remained in the property of the Order of Malta until the Revolution.
The Château : The elegance of this place is really surprising, there is a certain softness, a freshness with the park surrounding this building. The castle has kept the spirit of the fortress, the great Hall of the Knights for banquets and events, the billiard room. The modern kitchens and bathrooms all overlook the elegant English-style park with swimming pool; the 12 double rooms of the Castle and the 4 double rooms of the independent Cottage located in the park offer a capacity of 32 people in absolute comfort and a unique universe. The Chapel is still in the castle. It is situated in the heart of an 18Ha plot of land, 14Ha of which is agricultural land and a 4 Ha park.
What we think: We see many exceptional properties and we see this building as a work of art from a century ago where there is still a gentle way of life, a certain art de vivre in our French countryside.
